A man has been charged with attempted murder following an 'altercation' outside an address in Thornhill which led to a man colliding with a van.

Police were called at 12.13am to what they described as an 'altercation taking place between three men' outside an address on Ellwood Close.

A short time later, they received another report that one of the men had been in a collision with a flatbed van.

The man, in his 20s, was found by paramedics and police on Hinkler Road, a 10-minute walk from Ellwood Close.

He was taken to hospital with bruises and injuries to his face, and has since been discharged.

Following the incident last week, on Tuesday, March 5, police have charged two men as part of their investigation into what happened.

Alan Robert Clarke, 46, of Spring Road, has been charged with attempted murder and has been remanded into custody.

He is next due to appear at Southampton Crown Court on April 5.

Jamie Lee Clarke, 25, of Ellwood Close, has been charged with assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

He has been released on court bail and is next due to appear at Southampton Crown Court on April 5.

Police also made two further arrests.

A 24-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been released from police custody on conditional bail until June 5.

A 22-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She has been released on conditional bail until June 6.
