AN application is being made to register open space in Alresford as a village green.

Elizabeth Dow has applied to the county council for just under half an acres of land in Orchard Close to designated as a green.

A public notice states: "The application seeks the inclusion in the register of town and village greens of the land described in the schedule below which is claimed to have qualified for registration as a town or village green on 5th December 2018 by virtue of a significant number of local inhabitants having indulged in lawful sports and pastimes on the land, as of right, for a period of at least 20 years."

A copy of the application, which includes a plan of the land proposed for registration, may be obtained by contacting the Countryside Access Team at countryside@hants.gov.uk or at the offices of Winchester City Council and New Alresford Town Council.

TWO vacancies for parish councillors in Tichborne have emerged.

It follows the recent resignations of Sally Tattersall and former chairman Robert Raimes.

A by-election will be held if ten electors for the Parish of Tichborne give notice in writing claiming such an election to the Returning Officer at Winchester City Council.

If no such notice is given the parish council will fill the vacancy by co-option.

A FINAL reminder that the annual litter pick in Alresford will be this Saturday March 23.

The event, organised by the town council, runs from 9am to 11am at Alresford Recreation Centre.

Equipment and gloves will be provided. The event is in memory of the recently passed Bill Rushton.

ROPLEY Horticultural Society Spring Show will be on Saturday March 23. It will feature displays of flowers and produce, floral art, cookery, design and children's classes. Enjoy a cream tea and home made cakes before admiring the colourful displays. Raffle. Doors open 2.30pm.

The society generally meets at 7.45pm on the last Monday of the month, at Ropley Parish Hall, Vicarage Lane, SO24 0DU with an invited speaker. Free parking.
