A New Forest conservation charity has received a gift of tens of thousands in beloved TV star Paul O'Grady's will.

Orangutan Appeal UK, a charity committed to the protection of critically endangered orangutans and their habitat in Brockenhurst, has been gifted £50,000 from O'Grady's estate.

The British broadcaster and comedian, who passed away at the age of 67 in March 2023, allocated a total of £775,000 of his wealth to various charities and causes.

Known for his enduring support and patronage since 2015, O'Grady's "extraordinary generosity" has significantly contributed to the charity's endeavours over the years and raised awareness for the plight of orangutans.

The star became a patron after filming for the ITV series 'Paul O'Grady's Animal Orphans' at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo.

Voicing his pride for the organisation, O'Grady previously said: "As patron for Orangutan Appeal UK I am very proud to know their efforts are helping to make a real difference to Borneo’s rich biodiversity and the populations of critically endangered orangutans."

The broadcaster left £50,000 to Orangutan Appeal UK for the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.

This is in addition to the £500,000 for Battersea Dogs Home and other causes close to his heart.

Charity representative Adrienne Powell said: "We are deeply grateful for Paul O'Grady's extraordinary generosity.

"His incredible support has made a lasting impact on our work, allowing us to continue our efforts in supporting the critically endangered orangutans he adored.

"His legacy of compassion and kindness will live through the positive change it will bring."
