An investigation has been launched after it was reported that a cruise ship passenger went overboard.

The man disappeared from MSC Euribia which departed Southampton on March 15.

The vessel took passengers on a tour of northern Europe, bound for Hamburg, Rotterdam, Bruges and Le Havre.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed officers boarded the ship upon its return to Southampton as part of their enquiries.

A spokesperson said: “Officers boarded the vessel on Friday, March 22 following a report that a man had gone overboard.

“The man’s family are aware and police are investigating this on behalf of the coroner.”
