Angry residents have told of their fury after being plagued by “terrible” dog foul repeatedly left on the pavement.

People in Cranbury Avenue in Southampton have told the Echo they can barely step out of their front gardens without being greeted by large piles of dog mess.

Stevell Weir, 86, who has lived in Cranbury Avenue since 1962, said: “It is always happening. It’s a damn shame to see that street left like that.

“When you live on a street you want to take pride in it and keep it clean – other people don’t seem to care.

“It’s terrible - I have seen people walking their dogs and not picking up their dog foul. Often by the time I get to the door, they are gone with their hood up.

“Before I have even opened the window they have sworn at me and left in a hurry.

“It is worse at the weekend, especially during the early mornings when people are walking their dogs more.

“I would say that in the last four to five years the issue has got much worse.

“A couple of times it has been left right outside my gate and I have had to wash down the pavement myself.”

Other residents of Cranbury Avenue have also chimed in on the dog fouling issue.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said she even had the misfortune of walking it through her home when it was dark.

She added: “In the dark you cannot see where you are walking – it often gets left on the pavement by the trees that line the streets.

“In just the last week we have seen it happen twice.”

“We have been here 13 years but would definitely say it has got worse in the last couple of years.

Residents are calling for harsher punishments to be given to those who do not pick up their dog foul.
