Two men have been arrested after a group of men were seen fighting in the street whilst brandishing knives and hammers in broad daylight.

Police were called to Cranbury Avenue after a group of men were reported to be fighting in the middle of the busy Southampton road.

Eyewitnesses have told of seeing around four large police vehicles descend on the scene.

A resident who witnessed the attack and wanted to remain unnamed said: “There were so many police out on Cranbury Avenue that day and we could hear men shouting.

“There were even unmarked police vehicles – all the neighbours were coming out of their doors to see what the commotion was in the street.

“When you live with your family that sort of thing can be quite frightening.”

Many residents of Cranbury Avenue were also asked to send any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage to the police after the incident on March 17.

The police said that while one man was arrested for having a knife and another man for carrying a hammer – nobody was injured during the altercation.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “We were called at 1.41pm on Sunday, March 17 to a report of a group of men fighting in the street in Cranbury Avenue, Southampton.

“It was reported one of the men had a knife and one of the men had a hammer, but nobody was injured.

“A 30-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

“He has been released on bail until June 18 while further enquiries are carried out.

“A 19-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion possession of an offensive weapon and violent disorder.

“He has been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.
