Motorists faced severe delays on the M27 after a vehicle fire.

Those travelling westbound on the M27 were stuck in long tailbacks on Tuesday evening.

Fire crews from Hightown and Fareham rushed to the blaze between junction nine and eight.

The engine and passenger side of the car was destroyed.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing equipment used a hose reel to extinguish the fire which destroyed the engine and passenger compartment of the car.

“The initial call came in at 5.45pm and the stop message shortly after 6pm.”

Drivers endured delays of around 25 minutes while the incident was dealt with.
