A cocaine-fuelled driver was pulled over by police after driving with a missing tyre.

On Saturday, April 6, police patrolling in Botley stopped a blue Ford Fiesta that appeared to be driving their car with one missing tyre, saying they heard it coming before they actually saw it.

After being stopped by officers, the driver told police that "the tyre had not long gone flat", prompting the officer to suspect the driver may be under the influence.

The wheel and arch was severely damaged in photos posted by Hampshire Police.

A drug test followed, and the driver tested positive for being under the influence of cocaine.

Taking to Facebook to warn residents about the danger of driving under the influence, the officers involved said: “We heard this Fiesta in Botley before we saw it.

Daily Echo: “The driver told us the tyre had not long gone flat. Our professional judgement suggested this wasn't really the case.

“It came as no surprise when a positive drug wipe followed.”

The incident was attended by officers from Hedge End North Neighbourhood Policing Team and officers from the Hampshire Roads Policing Unit.

The officers added: “Whilst in the Botley area, officers sighted a vehicle that was being driven in a dangerous condition.

“The vehicle was stopped and the driver also provided a positive drug wipe for cocaine.

“The vehicle was issued with a prohibition notice and was recovered by police. The driver was arrested and transported to custody.”
