Southampton Central is one of the cheapest railway stations for parking in the country, according to new data.

Eight hours of parking at the city's main railway hub, which saw just over four million passengers pass through between April 2021 and March 2022, cost £7.90.

In the research conducted by Moneybarn, it was beaten by Chelmsford, Eastbourne, Tonbridge, Luton and Maidenhead.

Meanwhile, Oxford took the crown for most expensive parking outside of London, with eight hours of parking setting you back £31.50.

The other stations in the top five most expensive were Glasgow Central, Moorfields, Sheffield and Reading, while Winchester was the ninth most expensive place.

With the capital included, a day's parking at either Gatwick Airport Station or Marylebone costs a staggering £50.

The data, accurate as of February 2024, looked at an eight-hour stay between 9am and 5pm on a Monday.
