After Southampton has spent much of 2024 so far being battered by extreme rain, the city is set for warm weather beginning on Friday – with many national news outlets labelling it the start of a ‘mini-heatwave.’

According to the Met Office, England recorded more than 150 per cent of its average monthly rainfall in March – but April appears to be bringing the start of the warmer spring climate.

There is less than a five per cent chance of rain from 10am on Friday and throughout the rest of the day.

Despite the presence of clouds, residents can expect to experience highs of 17 degrees as the sun looks to periodically peak out amid the overcast conditions.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “On the cloudy side for many at first, however this cloud should develop lasting breaks to allow increasing periods of sunshine, eventually becoming very warm in places.”
