Southampton is set for a busy weekend – and people are urged to plan ahead.

A Vaisakhi parade, Southampton FC football match, and the arrival of cruise ships are expected to make the roads busier than normal.

Motorists are advised to consider the ongoing events and roadworks before travelling to the city centre.

Saints are playing Watford at home on Saturday, with kick off at 3pm.

Routes around St Mary’s stadium will be busier than usual before and after the game.

The Vaisakhi event is taking place on Sunday from 1pm.

The procession will start in St Mary’s, travel up The Avenue and Lodge Road, then down Bevois Valley, stopping at different Gurdwaras.

According to Southampton City Council, Red Funnel has advised that they will have an increased number of passengers travelling this weekend, in particular on Friday and Saturday.

This may make it busier than usual in the waterfront area.

Two cruise ships will dock in the city – Iona arriving on Saturday and Arvia on Sunday.

The temporary anti-clockwise, one-way system on the ring road remains in place from Charlotte Place to the Civic Centre.
