A duo arrested after a newborn baby died at a Southampton block of flats have had their bail extended.

At around 8.20am on Saturday, January 6, the air ambulance was called to the emergency at Millbrook Towers, landing in Mansel Park – with the police joining them 10 minutes later.

Two doctors and specialist paramedics from the air ambulance helped in the response.

They rushed to get the baby boy, who was born on Christmas Eve, to hospital by road.

But despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead.

A 33-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, both from Southampton, were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and neglect.

The death shocked residents at the block of flats, with one telling the Echo the news made them feel “sick”.

Officers have now confirmed the man and woman had their bail extended as officers continue to investigate.

The woman’s new bail date is July 6 and the man’s is June 4.
