A busy road is set to close for five weeks as resurfacing works get underway.

The A326 Marchwood Bypass will be shut to motorists as bus priority improvements continue.

Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming works

Important information

The Bypass will be closed from Monday, April 15 to May 24.

All work is scheduled to take place overnight and lane or full closures will be necessary during this time.

Workers will be at the site on weekdays from 7pm until 6am the following morning.

According to Hampshire County Council, there will be no requirement for the road to be closed on Saturdays or Sundays.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for all vehicles but emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.

What does the work entail?

From Monday, phase two of the improvements begin.

It will consist of:

  • A new bus lane on Marchwood Bypass approach to Rushington Roundabout and associated vegetation clearance.
  • Improved crossing point on Marchwood Bypass close to Rushington Roundabout and associated signal works.
  • Relocation and widening of existing shared use facilities between Parkside and Arnold Clark.
  • Road surfacing treatment between Rushington Roundabout and Jacobs Gutter Lane.
  • New bus gate on A326 and associated signals.
  • New crossing point between Bull Copse Road and Marchwood Bypass connecting to two new bus stops on Marchwood Bypass.
  • Widening existing pavement on Bull Copse Road.

The aim of the scheme is to provide a bus only right turn lane from the A326 onto Marchwood Bypass, joining with Rushington Roundabout.
