A widespread issue is affecting access to Hampshire's waste and recycling centres.

Some residents wishing to access tips at any of the county's 26 sites, including in Millbrook, Eastleigh, Gosport, Hedge End, Marchwood, Netley, Romsey, Segensworth or Somerley, are being turned away as their booking is not showing up on Hampshire County Council's system.

Residents visiting any of the sites must book in advance, and those visiting the Basingstoke site had reported problems booking same-day time slots.

Hampshire County Council apologised for the inconvenience but has since confirmed that the issue is affecting its booking system for all 26 Hampshire Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC).

A council spokesperson said: “Appointments for all of our household waste and recycling centres are made via the same booking system, which means the intermittent issue can present itself at any site.

“The centre at Basingstoke is our busiest with the highest number of same day bookings which is why the issue appears more pronounced there.”

It said the number of reported incidents was ‘relatively small’ with 15 vehicles not showing up on the system during the previous 14-day period.

“Work continues to resolve the issue. In the meantime, customers are advised to bring their confirmatory email with them when attending their local HWRC to help with this process,” the council said.

The council has been asked how long it has been aware of the problem.
