The council has issued a warning to drivers in Southampton that heavy traffic is expected tonight as Saints are set to finally play their postponed game against Preston North End.

To add to the congestion, the city council said that the ring road works the authority is undertaking in the city is also expected to make delays worse.

Drivers in the city this evening and Southampton FC fans are being advised to allow extra time for journeying as the roads will be extremely busy tonight.

Southampton are set to take on Preston North End in the Championship after the match was cancelled on March 6 after a huge blaze broke out in a warehouse near the stadium.

The blaze did not cause significant damage to St Marys, however the game was originally cancelled due to the health and safety risk of the warehouse fire.
