Southampton Tesco's shoppers are helping fund food allergy research through an in-store campaign running until April 28.

Working once again with The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, Tesco’s Southampton stores will donate 10p from every own-brand Free From product sold in-store or online for seven days, marking the fifth year of this charitable partnership.

Customers also have the option to contribute by rounding up their bill at self-service checkouts. All proceeds will assist Natasha’s Foundation in its research to decrease food allergy risks and improve management strategies.

Oonagh Turnbull, head of health campaigns at Tesco, said: "The work that Natasha’s Foundation has done to date has been fantastic and we are delighted to be able to support this for a fifth year.

“There are now 175 products in our Free From range, from meals and desserts to snacks, all created with great taste but without any of the allergens. We welcome any shoppers in Southampton to try these products or kindly round up their shopping at the self-service tills to help raise money for a fantastic cause."

The campaign doubles as an awareness drive about the necessity of understanding food allergies and the significance of food ingredient transparency, particularly for allergenic ingredients.

Natasha’s Foundation was established in 2019 by parents Tanya and Nadim Ednan-Laperouse following the heartbreaking death of their daughter Natasha, caused by an allergic reaction to unlisted sesame seeds in a baguette.

Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE said: "We’re thrilled that Tesco is supporting us for the fifth year running. Allergen awareness is so important, and money raised in previous years has helped to fund clinical research exploring the management of food allergies."

The foundation is committed to garnering support and funding for crucial food allergy research and is focused on making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by food allergies.
