Two Barratt Homes employees volunteered at Solent Mind's Mayfield Garden Centre recently, helping prepare the site for spring.

Christopher Sharp, Barratt Commercial Manager, and Niall Wood, Assistant Land Buyer, cleared waste from the nursery end of last month.

The garden centre is a part of Hampshire's leading mental health charity, Solent Mind, and plays a vital role in the community life.

Not only does the site operate as a garden centre and a café, it also hosts wellbeing groups for locals. Every penny generated through sales at Mayfield Garden Centre is reinvested in supporting individuals with mental health issues.

Stocking a range of plants for homes and gardens, the centre also offers a café for visitors to relax in. All of the proceeds go directly to fund Solent Mind’s services helping those struggling with mental health disorders on their journey to recovery.

Jo Silsbury, Lead Corporate Fundraiser at Solent Mind, said: “Our corporate volunteer days are open to any organisation who partner with us either through fundraising, donations or by purchasing wellbeing training, and we’re really grateful for the Barratt workers who came along today.

“Volunteering has been shown to be great for staff wellbeing so it’s a win win situation for us. We benefit from some extra hands to help with all the jobs on a large site and our corporate partners have happy staff who get a great sense of fulfilment from having volunteered for a day.”

Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, said: “We want to support charities in the communities where we are building new homes, and Solent Mind’s Mayfield Garden Centre is doing great things for people in the local area. It’s always a pleasure to help where we can.”
