Demolition crews in Southampton have started to tear down the Leisure World site that has stood in Southampton for 27 years.
In February of 2022, it was announced that the site, which included a cinema, night club and restaurants, would be closing to make way for a new development.
As reported in the Echo, Associated British Ports (ABP) has been given the green light to flatten the site on West Quay Road after warning that squatters had left it in a dangerous condition.
A £250m plan to transform the site seems to have stalled and fears have been raised that the intended scheme is no longer viable.
Many Southampton residents have fond memories of watching films at Odeon cinema or taking to the dance floor at Oceana night club.
ABP has said that the demolition of the site is expected to last for around three months.
