Eastleigh town centre is set to benefit from a major 'Together we make Eastleigh' project, geared towards boosting business and visitor experiences.

The council has initiated a tender process, seeking a consultant and an Artist in Residence, who will support the project over the next two years.

This initiative is powered by the Levelling Up scheme. The designated consultant will be tasked with public engagement involving relevant stakeholders, data processing, and trialling new approaches.

The council is inviting applications from multi-discipline teams with proven expertise in community engagement, placemaking, place marketing, town centre regeneration, public realm improvements, and delivery of roadworks.

The last date for submitting applications is Sunday, June 23 with operations set to commence from mid-July. Simultaneously, the council has opened applications for an Artist in Residence.

This role offers room for creativity, with responsibilities spanning across all age groups, aiming to provide a comprehensive picture of the town centre perceptions.

The council is encouraging both local and international artists to apply for this paid position which will run throughout the summer.

The role includes shadowing the Eastleigh BID team and participating in town centre events. Applications will remain open until Monday, June 10. The council aims to harness the gathered knowledge and data from these key roles, and utilise the insights for grounding future plans.

It aims to amplify visitor experience and footfall in forthcoming years with prime focus on the desires and demands of businesses, residents and other stakeholders.

Funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, this project paves the way for a community-wide placemaking brand. This aims to establish the town centre as an attractive local destination, supported by all stakeholders.

Councillor James Duguid, the council’s cabinet member for transport and economy said: “We can’t wait to hire our new partners and get this exciting project off the ground. This is a great opportunity for the public, business and organisations to voice their aspirations for the Eastleigh town area.

"I urge you all to engage with the consultation to ensure everyone is heard to improve our beloved town centre for the future."
