Three people have been rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a crash on a busy Hampshire road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision involving two vehicles on Winchester Road in Upham shortly after 8am on Thursday morning.

Firefighters from Eastleigh and Hightown rescued one casualty from a vehicle before helping paramedics in treating casualties.

Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but these are not thought to be life-threatening at the current time, police said.

The road remains closed today while emergency services deal with the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "We would ask people to please avoid the area at the current time.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 0385 of today’s date."

Fire crews cleared up an oil spill and made the scene safe before returning to station, the fire service added.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews responded to a traffic collision involving two vehicles on Winchester Road in Upham shortly after 8am this morning.

"Firefighters from Eastleigh and Hightown released one casualty from a vehicle before assisting paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service with treating casualties.

"HIWFRS cleared up an oil spill and made the scene safe before returning to station."
