POLICE have stepped up their appeal for witnesses following the death of a cyclist on the Itchen Bridge in Southampton.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Southampton Operational Command Unit stopped drivers using the bridge to see if they had any information of the collision which killed 60-year-old Derek Witt.

Mr Witt, a popular cyclist from Swanwick died on Wednesday, August 20, when the bicycle he was riding was in collision with a dark coloured Peugeot 406.

Tonight police stopped drivers from 7.30pm to 9.30pm to ask if they saw or heard anything that might relate to the incident.
