A Southampton hospital has been hiding a secret biscuit factory, whipping up nearly 4,500 pieces of shortbread.

The operation was aimed at providing a buttery treat, funded by the Solent NHS Trust Charity, for every member of the Solent NHS Trust staff as part of the organization's Celebration Day on June 5.

Volunteers from the Estates team dispatched the sweet nibbles, concocted by the award-winning Catering team, to over 30 locations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Naz Ahmed, assistant catering manager, who led the production line at Western Community Hospital, said: "It has been a real team effort.

"Our Catering staff baked batches of biscuits whenever there has been a spare moment. These were later decorated before being individually wrapped, labelled and boxed up for delivery."

The biscuit bonanza, dubbed Operation Biscuit, consequently took over the hospital conservatory for two days.

This was part of the Solent Celebration Day, a virtual occasion acknowledging the organization's achievements preceding their merger with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Mark Young, deputy director of estates and facilities, said: "Once again our brilliant Catering team has pulled out the stops. We are grateful to the Solent NHS Trust Charity for funding these biscuits and hope they will be enjoyed by everyone."
