A nature-loving woman who spent seven years in a care home has been remembered with a 1.5m bronze stag statue.

Hilda Parrett, who died earlier this year, is now honoured at the Brockenhurst-based Woodpeckers home with the statue positioned next to a cherry blossom tree she cherished.

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, Hilda's family gifted the statue to the home.

In collaboration with Hilda's children Ken and Sue, Woodpecker's staff solicited residents to suggest name's for the stag, 'Sparky' was chosen as the favourite.

Attending the naming ceremony were Ken, his wife June and Hilda's friends including fellow residents Paul Puckering and Patricia Hoy.

Cutting the ribbon on the statue and paying tribute to his mother, Ken said: "She enjoyed the beautiful and seasonally changing garden view from her room.

"She will not just be missed by her family and friends but the Woodpeckers team who supported her wellbeing and care day to day.
