Photos have shown the damage caused to an ambulance after rocks were thrown from a railway line. 

The South Central Ambulance Vehicle had a cracked windscreen and dents to the bonnet after the incident at 1.15am on Tuesday, June 11. 

Police say a group of males gained access to the railway line adjacent to the ambulance service's centre on Northarbour Road in Cosham. 

Rocks were then thrown from the line at the vehicle.

The group then entered the site and attempted to access the building but were challenged by ambulance employees. 

They then ran away.

Police attended the scene and are now appealing for any witnesses with information to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses after colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) reported that one of their ambulances had been damaged at their centre on Northabour Road in Cosham.

"As part of our enquiries, we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around this time.
