A 21-year-old dad has appeared in court this morning charged with murdering his former girlfriend Hollie Green.

Daniel Lee Gibbons, of Taranto Road, Lordswood, Southampton, ony spoke to confirm his name when he appeared at the city magistrates court.

Wearing a blue and white striped t-shirt and jeans was remanded in custody after a five minute hearing.

The court heard there would be no application for bail.

Gibbon will now appear before Winchester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing next Tuesday.

Tributes have been paid to 21-year-old mum Hollie who was found dead in maisonette in Taranto Road on Sunday morning.

Dozens of people have posted messages of condolence on the Daily Echo website.

A line of floral bouquets and baskets have been placed outside the balcony of Hollie's third-floor maisonette.

One of the messages read: "Hollie, you'll always be in my heart and we'll miss you. Love always, Amy xxx."

A message on another bouquet said: "Words cannot express the pain I feel. RIP my gorgeous friend. We will watch over Ellie for you. All my love, your heartbroken friend, Katy."

Attached to a bunch of white roses was a message that read "Sadly missed, will love you forever, Uncle Tony and Auntie Angie, Darryl, Leigh, Hayley, miss you loads darling love."

Staff at the Shirley branch of Specsavers, where Hollie, who had a young daughter Ellie, worked as an optician, have been left devastated by her death.

The store's director Leighton Simmons said: "On behalf of everyone at Specsavers I would like to express our deepest sympathy.

"We are shocked at the news and are grieving at the loss of a close friend who bought so much happiness to our work and personal lives."

Police yesterday continued their inquiries at the block of flats after Hollie's body was discovered at around 5am on Sunday.

Throughout, yesterday the scene was cordoned off and two police community support officers stood guard outside the property, overlooking Lord's Hill Way.

A post mortem revealed that Hollie died from injuries to her neck.
