After enjoying the summer holidays, thousands of pupils across the city are going back to the classroom, reuniting with their friends and preparing for lessons as part of a different year group or even at a new school entirely.

For some, this week will mark the momentous occasion of their first ever day in school.

Before they set off to start the autumn term in tidy uniforms with full backpacks, many children paused to pose for the traditional photos taken by their excited loved ones.
