A company that provides educational support services is seeking consent to breathe new life into a former bank.
New Forest District Council has received an application relating to the old Barclays building at 6-8 Ringwood.
The proposal has been submitted by UKG Ltd, which is based at New Barn House in Derritt Lane, Bransgore.
Planning documents include a design and access statement produced by Studio Arkell, representing the applicant.
It says: "The property is currently vacant. It is our client’s aim to re purpose this property as an educational building. The new use would increase footfall within the town, and boost the local economy.
"To the rear it is proposed that the existing balustrade is removed, altered and replaced to make better use of the flat roof.
"Within this flat roof, a new roof light will be added to bring natural light into the ground floor to serve an additional wash room.
"The proposed additions will match the appearance of the existing building and wider area.
"The proposal will not cause harm to the character and appearance of the host building or nearby designated heritage assets. It is therefore considered that on balance the proposal will improve the usability of the property, and prolong the longevity of this building.
"It is our view that the proposals will enhance the character and appearance of number 6-8 High Street."
