Two people were rescued by firefighters after a kitchen fire broke out in Southampton.

A house in Duncan Close, in Weston, was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived at the scene around 11.30pm last night.

The two people inside the property were safely rescued and treated by paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service.

They were later transported to hospital for further care.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service said: “Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at a property on Duncan Close, Southampton, late Sunday evening.

"The alarm was raised at approximately 11.30pm, and crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames."

They added: “Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, swiftly extinguished the blaze using hoses and jets.

“Before returning to the station just after midnight, crews distributed fire safety materials to nearby residents.”

The fire prompted a large emergency response, with police, three ambulances and at least two fire engines posted at the scene.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary confirmed their attendance was not required upon arrival at the scene.
