A Southampton couple have published a cookbook after their homemade ingredients amassed them a huge online following.
Pawel and Joanna Kiepura, who grew up in Poland, began sharing their skills in making condiments, breads, preserves, and ferments on social media.
Their success as creators has led to them both taking up the role full-time, with Jo giving up her job as a business consultant and Pawel no longer working for a contact lens manufacturer.
Under the Tastespellcom account, they have more than 500,000 Instagram followers and millions of views.
Their easy-to-follow, additive-free recipes for everyday essentials have proven a hit and are now featured in their debut cookbook, Back to Basics.
Pawel said: "We have always made things and one day about four years ago we decided to take a camera into the kitchen with us.
"We were concerned about all of the additives in food and the fact the writing on packaging seemed to be getting smaller and smaller so you couldn’t really work out what was in it.
"We just felt we needed to do this our own way."
The pair first launched their own YouTube channel before expanding to Instagram, sharing a variety of recipes.
Pawel explained: "We make our own mayo, pickles, vinegars, spices and even sausages."
The inspiration for creating kitchen staples came from their childhood in southern Poland in the 80s and 90s, where shop-bought food was limited and often rationed.
Joanna said: "I remember us standing in long queues for food so our parents had to think outside the box.
"Preparing and preserving food for times when there wasn’t so much available was really important and that’s where our background came from."
Their success has led them to partner with publishing company Found, who helped them turn their content into a book.
Joanna said: "We always dreamed about having a cookery book so we can’t believe this has really happened."
Pawel added: "This has given us the opportunity to do something we’re really passionate about."
Copies of Back to Basics are available at £24.99 for a hardback version and £10.99 as a digital download at http://found.usfound.us.
