A popular Korean and Japanese restaurant is set to open another outlet next to Southampton Central station.

Asian eatery Kokoro is expanding its offering in Southampton with a new restaurant in Overline House on Blechynden Terrace.

The new location will be the second outlet in the city and will neighbour the Tesco Express opened on the same road in February 2023.

Kokoro, the world-famous Japanese sushi and hot food chain, is recognisable through its iconic blue and black livery, which has already been put up at the new restaurant.

Images of sushi, Katsu curries and sweet and sour chicken can be seen covering up some of the building's windows.

A sign stuck to the automatic double front doors simply says "opening soon".

Sophie Rice, 25, said that she "loved" Kokoro's food while she studied at university, and will now enjoy the Asian food during her work commutes at Southampton Central.

"Kokoro got me through university and after long days at work I'm definitely going to be popping in the new place on my way home," she said.

In a press release for another store, a spokesperson from Kokoro said: "At Kokoro, we believe food is more than just fuel - it’s an experience.

"All our dishes are made daily with love, fresh ingredients, and a passion for bringing people joy through food."

The Asian eatery is currently also working on opening a new restaurant in Winchester, as its iconic blue and black livery has been seen on a shop as workmen continue to operate.

Kokoro has 77 locations across the UK at the time of writing, including one on Market Street in Eastleigh.
