The new chief executive of Southampton City Council has said she is "delighted" to take up the role..
Jillian Kay joins at a crucial time for the council, with a balanced budget set for the year, a transformation programme underway, and devolution and local government reorganisation on the horizon.
Her appointment was confirmed by the council in January with a unanimous backing from councillors, and she has now taken over from the interim chief, Andrew Travers.
This fills the role following the resignation of Mike Harris, who left the role last year after the authority's financial problems took a "significant toll" on his health.
The council is in the process of selling millions of pounds worth of assets in a bid to shore up its finances.
Ms Kay said: "Southampton is a fantastic city, and I am delighted to take on the role at this pivotal moment for the council, the city, and the region.
"With the council going through a major transformation, I have already been in touch with the political and executive leadership to ensure that we maintain the direction and energy within the council and become financially sustainable and effective for the future of local government.
"With Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation, we have great opportunities to develop the city and the region, as well as to deliver excellent services for residents, businesses and partners in the region.”
