Video footage has revealed that just moments before plunging into the River Itchen, a Bluestar bus almost collided with a van.
There were 19 students from Barton Peveril College on-board when a bus careered off Bishopstoke Road. The driver told eyewitnesses the accelerator had become "jammed".
Just moments before the bus plunged into the Itchen, it is understood a telegraph pole, a lamppost and a traffic light were struck just outside the Nisa Local store.
Five people were taken to hospital. Two people, including the driver in his 60s were seriously injured.

The bus then came tearing through Bishopstoke Road - just narrowly missing a van, clipping a learner driver and missing others travelling along the busy road.
