For a waterfront city, Southampton has very little access to the water, which is why Weston Shore is so important.

However, the shore is under threat and I hope to make certain that everyone knows it.

For 50 years and more Weston Shore has been the go-to destination as soon as the sun shines and the only recent change to it has been the building of traffic calming chicanes followed by the imposition of a 20 mph limit.

One would have thought that these recent changes would be enough, but it seems not.

Our council now feels that despite the above measures an additional 200 metres of yellow lines are required on the seaward side!

This measure will prevent approximately 50 cars from parking in view of the water.

The signage for these measures was put on lamp posts but subsequently ripped down, and a request to the council to put up more signs evidently fell on deaf ears, consequently very few people are aware of the proposals.

For those who did see the posters the main item was the banning of overnight parking (which to  most people means, an end to near derelict caravans), which I imagine the majority would support, but how many of those supporting the change were also aware of the massive loss of seaside parking?
