Southampton residents managed to win a total of £4,000 after being sent on a city-wide scavenger hunt last week.

Locals scooped up £1,000 prizes at four different in-person giveaways on August 21 and 22, winning the four-figure fee for simply finding a hidden orange car across the city.

Hints to the location of the hiding XPENG G6 car were released twice a day by Peter Cooper XPENG, the showroom behind the scavenger hunt, sending residents on a goose chase as they followed the "clues".

Eagle-eyed readers would have seen mysterious adverts in two editions of the Daily Echo on the week of the event.

Tom Mason found the XPENG at St Mary's Stadium, saying that all he had to do to win the £1,000 was "follow this orange car around town".

Deacon Haine scooped his prize by finding the orange car on Southampton's waterfront at Mayflower Park.

"It's probably the most dramatic race I've ever been involved in," he said.

"My wife and I will be spending the money on IVF."

Sean Stroud and Kevin Scott were the final two winners, finding the car at The Walls and Southampton Central train station respectively.

A further four people will receive £500 as part of an online giveaway, taking the total to £6,000.
