7 new destinations travellers want from Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport is a popular place for people to fly from, with new destination options being added almost every year.

Hundreds of thousands of people use the airport each year, with plenty of flights leaving for the UK or European destinations.

While there are plenty of spots travellers can reach, there is always a desire for new places to travel to.

We decided to ask Daily Echo readers what destinations they would like to see added to Southampton Airport's roster, with more than 250 comments being left on the Facebook post.

7 new destinations readers want to see from Southampton Airport

Limoges, France

Plenty of readers were keen to see Southampton add the southwestern French city of Limoges to its options.

One said they'd love "Limoges - all year round," especially as there was the chance nearby Bournemouth Airport might not offer Bergerac next year.

Another wrote: "Manchester and Limoges. I used to fly Flybe regularly to both."

A third shared: "LIMOGES LIMOGES LIMOGES. Always a popular route with Flybe."

Greece

Quite a few people were keen to see Greece added to Southampton's destinations, especially if it would save them travelling to one of the London airports.

One reader shared: "Direct flights to the Greek islands, Balearics, etc. short haul flights to warmth, saving the public from the aggravation of having to travel to London.

"Their competitor will be Bournemouth, but Tui and Jet2 are chasing each other’s destinations."

Some mentioned specific locations like Corfu and Crete and Kefalonia.

Another wrote: "Mediterranean sailing areas, for all us South Coast sailors who would like to an easier way to get to their Yacht charter holidays. For example: Corfu, Preveza, Skiathos, Dalaman, Bodrum."

Poland

Lots of people wanted to see Poland included on the list for new Southampton Airport destinations.

One shared: "Poland! Gdańsk or Warsaw would be lovely."

Another posted: "Poland! Rzeszow! Kraków Wrocław."

A third commented: "Wroclaw, Gdansk, Poznan, Lublin - POLAND."

A couple shared they wanted Lodz included, while there were various calls for Gdansk and Krakow.

Malaga, Spain

Malaga was a destination that Southampton Airport used to fly out to, and some readers would love to see it brought back.

One wrote: "Malaga. I’ve no idea why BA stopped it. Every flight I was on was full."

Another said: "Malaga please!!!!"

A third posted: "Malaga in the winter."

Malta

There were 11 separate comments in support of a direct flight to Malta being on the itinerary at Southampton Airport.

The small island, not too far away from Italy, has plenty to offer outside of its usually warm weather.

The country's tourism website shares: "Whether you’re a history buff, a night owl, an adrenaline junkie, or simply a rambler wishing to be bowled over by natural splendour, the list of things to do in Malta is endless.

"Whatever you’re looking for in a holiday, with so much to see and do, a trip to the Maltese Islands is an unmissable experience for any type of traveller."

Cyprus

Cyprus was another popular choice, with 13 different readers sharing it as their choice for a new destination.

Like Malta, it is another small island that is known for its sunny climate, alongside its quality beaches and opportunities to explore areas of historical importance.

Its tourism website describes it as "an island rich in history and culture" where there are "wonderful experiences just waiting to be enjoyed".

Italy

Italy had a few comments of support, with readers not really minding where in the country they would like to travel to from Southampton.

One wrote: "Anywhere in Italy, ideally in the north (Milan, Venice, Bologna) and Rome."

In reply, another said: "Totally agree and also Rimini for Cattolica!!"

Another shared: "Milan, actually all of Italy, Greece, Egypt."

Meanwhile, another simply posted: "Anywhere in Italy please!"
