Southampton Airport has reached one of the highest standards of environmental recognition.
The airport, along with Aberdeen and Glasgow, has achieved Level 4+ accreditation in the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme.
This marks the second-highest level in the global carbon management programme, which independently evaluates airports’ efforts to manage and reduce carbon emissions.

Kam Jandu, chief executive of AGS Airports, said: "This is a significant achievement for AGS and acknowledgement that we are making tangible progress in decarbonising our airports while supporting the efforts of the wider aviation sector.

"Sustainable growth is integral to our business model and long-term success, and we have worked hard to embed it into our core operations which is why we are delighted to have secured Level 4+ of the ACA scheme.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only institutionally endorsed, global carbon management certification programme for airports, with seven levels of certification.
To secure Level 4+, all three of AGS’ airports had to demonstrate they are “transforming airport operations and those of their business partners to achieve absolute emissions reductions,” and the accreditation recognises that AGS has defined a long-term carbon management strategy that is aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

AGS Airports aims to reach net zero for direct emissions by 2035, a key goal of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy launched earlier this year.
The group has taken steps such as using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in operational vehicles, transitioning to electric vehicles, and supporting partner airlines’ net zero plans.
Olivier Jankovec, director general of ACI Europe, said: "Congratulations to AGS Airports for reaching Level 4+ of Airport Carbon Accreditation at Southampton, Aberdeen, and Glasgow airports.
"This is an important milestone, attesting that their carbon reduction strategy is now fully aligned with the objective of the Paris Agreement."
In April 2025, AGS’s new owners announced a planned investment of £350 million over five years to support the airports' future growth and decarbonisation efforts.
