A new simplified council tax support scheme will provide up to 100 per cent help for eligible Fareham households.

Fareham Borough Council is introducing a redesigned Council Tax Support Scheme for working-age residents, set to take effect from April 2026.

The current means-tested model will be replaced with a more straightforward, income-banded approach.

Councillor Simon Martin, leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: "I am delighted with the imminent launch of this new Council Tax Support Scheme which will provide clearer, fairer support for working-age people.

"By simplifying the system and offering greater protection for low‑income and disabled households, we are ensuring residents receive more stable and meaningful help at a time when many are facing real financial pressures."

The updated scheme offers up to 100 per cent support, removing the current minimum 20 per cent contribution.

It also eliminates non-dependant deductions and provides additional support for disabled residents through increased disregards.

Full details are available on the council’s website.
