The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Volunteer Police Cadets are looking for adults willing to mentor young people.

The Volunteer Police Cadet (VPC) scheme, operational since 2014, supports 11 units across the counties, offering young people aged 13 to 18 a structured environment to enhance confidence, life skills, and community involvement.

Cadets take part in communication and teamwork skills, drill, policing scenarios, charity marshalling, and work alongside neighbourhood officers to build a sense of civic duty.

The programme wants more volunteers to join as Cadet Leaders, committing to two hours a week during term time, impacting lives by aiding young people in staying safe and acquiring valuable future skills.

Adult volunteers receive full training, a uniform, continual support, and are reimbursed for travel expenses, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds.

The role does not necessitate prior policing or youth-work experience, but rather a willingness to inspire and guide.

Serving as a Cadet Leader is also rewarding for adults as they develop leadership, communication, and mentoring aptitudes, while integrating into a supportive team in close liaison with policing.

Volunteers are acknowledged for their services and sometimes assist in high-profile events, summer camps, and community safety initiatives.

A Volunteer Recruitment Event is scheduled for Saturday, April 11.

The event serves as a chance to meet the team, pose queries, and understand the role before deciding if it suits.

For more information or queries, potential volunteers can email volunteer.police.cadets@hampshire.police.uk or visit the website the Hampshire Police Jobs website.
