A football fan who ran onto the pitch during the Saints v Portsmouth derby has been handed a four-year ban from matches.

Taylor Rogers, 32, of Havant Road, Portsmouth, entered the playing area at Fratton Park during the second half of the January clash between Portsmouth FC and Southampton FC.

Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court heard Rogers ran across the pitch towards Southampton supporters and threw a football in their direction before being quickly removed by stewards.

He pleaded guilty to entering the playing area at a designated match and throwing a missile at spectators.

Rogers was given a four-year football banning order and ordered to pay £1,205 in fines and costs.

Chief Superintendent Simon Dodds said: "Pitch invaders threaten the safety of those on the pitch, as well as the fans and it is our duty, alongside the clubs, to take action against them to ensure that matches can take place in a secure environment without any interruption.”
