A team of naval trainees has claimed victory in a gruelling field gun competition.

The Victory Squadron from HMS Collingwood in Farheam, clinched the Junior Leaders Field Gun (JLFG) finals held in south-east London on Saturday, May 9.

The team beat rivals from the Fleet Air Arm, HMS Raleigh, and the RN Cadet Force, finishing in a time of one minute and 25 seconds.

Chief Petty Officer and VS crew mentor Lee Beagley said: "They demonstrated hardwork, dedication and C2DRIL in abundance.

"Hopefully, following this win, we can continue to progress and go on to win the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity Field Gun at this year's Open Day."

The JLFG competition challenges teams of young people aged 16 to 24 to manoeuvre and operate field gun equipment weighing around one tonne in timed drills.

Organisers said the 2026 competition marked "a significant step forward" for the JLFG, with updates to the format and additional welfare support for participants.
