Police have arrested a suspect in Southampton after a woman was "inappropriately touched".

The arrest was one of several incidents handled by officers during a recent shift, according to a team update shared by officers.

In the update, police said: "Between the sunny and wet weather, officers have attended an incident of sexual assault where the suspect had inappropriately touched a female.

"The suspect was arrested and taken into custody and has been dealt with appropriately.

"These kinds of incidents are a top priority for our force."

Officers also assisted in reuniting a missing child with their family, with the help of the public.

The update said: "Thank you to the community who stepped up and helped find the girl before she wandered too far."

Suspects outstanding for offences such as robbery, shoplifting and assaults were also arrested.

Police added: "They will likely stay in our custody for the night to be interviewed in the morning."
