A park yoga session is set to mark International Yoga Day with a tea party in the park.

The free event, organised by Park Yoga and led by instructor Kate Thevanayagam, will take place at Priory Park in Bishop’s Waltham on Sunday, June 21.

Following the regular 9.30am class, participants are invited to stay for a community tea party in the park, with tea bags donated by Yogi Tea.

Kate said: "In this hectic world, it allows people to have an hour outside with gentle wind blowing in their face and it brings people peace and connection.

"It’s very welcoming and I want to help people by bringing people together.

"I am really passionate about it and its nothing crazy so everyone can do it."

Park Yoga Bishop’s Waltham launched this year and has already attracted crowds of 50 to 100 people each week.

Sessions are open to all ages and abilities, including families, older adults, and those with prams.

Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or towel and organisers suggest bringing a flask of hot water to enjoy a cuppa after the session.

Picnics are also welcome.

A group yoga activity will follow the class, emphasising yoga's holistic benefits for mind and body.

Park Yoga is a charity-funded programme supported by donations.

It offers free weekly outdoor yoga in more than 75 locations across the UK, reaching over 5,000 people each week.

The sessions aim to improve physical and mental wellbeing, offering an accessible way to enjoy yoga in a natural setting.

Park Yoga Bishop’s Waltham is led by Ms Thevanayagam, a nurse and mother of two who began practising yoga during injury recovery.

The weekly classes begin at 9.30am and are designed to be inclusive, calming, and community-focused.

Regular updates are shared on the Park Yoga Bishop’s Waltham Facebook page.
