Proposals have been submitted to extend the operating hours of The Giddy Bridge.
The venue in London Road currently trades from 7am to midnight every day, but the pub wants to close at 1.30am on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as New Year’s Eve.
A planning application for a one-year temporary permission is due to go before Southampton City Council’s planning and rights of way panel on Tuesday, June 30.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “Most late night venues provide music.
“Wetherspoon believes there is considerable demand from the public for something different – a music-free environment with food available until midnight.”

The scheme has attracted six objections from residents and does not fully comply with local planning policy, meaning it must be decided by councillors.
Objectors raised concerns about the impact on nearby homes, including increased noise, disturbance and anti-social behaviour from pubgoers arriving and leaving in the early hours.
However, no objections were raised by police, licensing and environmental health.
The proposal follows similar applications from other venues in the London Road area, where the council the council has granted temporary extensions while monitoring the impact on the night-time economy.

The council has turned down three applications over the past 15 years to extend the opening hours by varying degrees at The Giddy Bridge.
However, the officer report to the panel said: “Each application was refused on the ground of unacceptable loss of amenity for the occupiers of neighbouring dwellings and would cause further detriment to the residential amenities by reason of noise and disturbance.
“In this instance, whilst there could be additional noise and disturbance to nearby residential properties from patrons arriving and dispersing from the premises later in the early hours of the morning, officers suggest this impact wouldn’t be significant.”
Wetherspoon has proposed mitigation measures, including keeping delivery and waste collection times unchanged and closing outdoor garden areas at 10pm.
The application has been recommended for conditional approval by officers.
The Giddy Bridge already has a premises licence to operate from 7am to 1.30am Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and 7am to 2am on Friday and Saturday.
