Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Apex has received a perfect hygiene inspection score despite inspectors uncovering flies in food areas, dirty equipment and an illness reporting breach.

The cruise ship scored 100 out of 100 during a routine inspection on April 19, but the report listed a series of deficiencies.

Inspectors found live flies in several food preparation areas, including the Oceanview Café and crew mess, while black debris was discovered on drinking water taps and an ice scoop.

A dead fly was also found in a bucket containing sanitising solution.

Other issues included undercooked roast beef being served without the correct public health advisory and bottled water being stored in an unprotected area.

The report also noted that a crew member suffering from acute gastroenteritis delayed reporting their symptoms by more than three hours.

Despite the findings, inspectors awarded the ship a perfect score after corrective action was taken and no critical violations were identified during the inspection.
