A schoolboy who died while swimming at Testwood Lakes during the heatwave has been named, with tributes saying his death has left an "unimaginable void" in the lives of those who knew him.

The 15-year-old boy, named as Irebami and known as Ire, went missing after entering the water at Testwood Lakes last Wednesday when temperatures soared and many children were off school, with a fundraiser now set up to pay for a memorial and his funeral.

It comes after a major search took place involving specialist divers, the police marine unit, the National Police Air Service, firefighters and ambulance crews while the site was closed to the public.

Three days later on Saturday, Hampshire police confirmed a body had been found in what politicians called a highly "distressing" incident.

The fundraiser aims to raise £9,000 for his family to pay for his funeral and memorial bench.

More than £7,500 has been raised through around 400 donations.

Max Osman organised the fundraiser, which Ire's family has asked the Daily Echo to share.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Max said: "We are heartbroken to share the loss of our friend, Ire, who tragically passed away at just 15 years old after a drowning accident.

"Ire was loved by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

"His passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those around him.

"We are raising funds to help support Ire’s family with funeral and memorial expenses during this incredibly difficult time.

"Any contribution, no matter the amount, will be deeply appreciated and will help ease some of the financial burden on his loved ones.

"Please keep Ire’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

"Thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity."

Formal identification has taken place and the boy's family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

A statement by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust said: "We are profoundly saddened by the tragic incident at Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve.

"Our heartfelt condolences go to the boy’s family, friends and everybody affected."

The nature reserve has since reopened.
