Dean Jones can build a single traveller pitch on land to the south of Ringwood Road after planners approved his application on July 29.
The bid to change the strip of land was first lodged in October 2025, and it will now host one mobile home and vehicle parking space.
The plot sits off the A336 on the western side of the town and is surrounded by “mature trees and hedgerows”, which will be kept to help screen the development from nearby homes and the main road.
Plans submitted to the New Forest National Park Authority (NFNPA) outlined plans for a two-bedroom mobile home with an open-plan living area, private garden space, a gravel driveway and a single parking space with an electric car charging point.

Waste and rainwater will be dealt with on the site, and the existing gated access from Ringwood Road will remain in place.
The planning statement from Mr Jones said that the “small-scale scheme” will “sit quietly” in the setting of the national park, adding that it would not harm the character of the countryside.
It reads: “The proposal should be supported from a planning perspective on the basis that the design creates a sympathetic, interesting appearance and complements the character of the local area.
“There is no overbearing impact on the existing buildings or open countryside.”
The document also pointed to national rules which said councils should make fair provision for gypsies and travellers, adding that the site is within walking or cycling distance of shops, schools, bus stops and Totton railway station.
Supporting information from Mr Jones’s agent, Ian Sullivan, said the applicant was born at Southampton hospital and has spent his life in and around the New Forest, living in Lyndhurst as well as parts of Brockenhurst and Lymington.
He added that Mr Jones has family in the area and works locally in the New Forest, and that he is seeking just one pitch to meet his needs.
The planning statement concluded there are no major issues over neighbours, wildlife, flooding, trees or drainage.
It said: “The proposal directly affects gypsies and travellers; the suggested scheme will result in accommodation on the site, and as such it is considered that the proposal has a positive effect under the Equality Act.”
