Romsey's new Neighbourhood Plan will go out for consultation soon.
Romsey Town Council received an update on the plan at its Building and Community Meeting on Tuesday, August 4.
Cllr John Critchley, who is also chair of the Steering Group, said: "We will go into consultation in September.
"We’ll have consultation events around the town, and our staff are currently putting things together. This will be the last stage of our work.
"It will then go to Test Valley Borough Council.
"I will try to keep you up to date when I have more details for you."
Residents were urged to have their say on the neighbourhood plan when the Whole Town Survey launched in mid-April.
The survey asked residents what they would change and how they want Romsey to develop over the next 10 to 15 years.
The survey followed four public consultations last autumn.
Test Valley Borough Council will send the plan to an independent examiner once it is submitted.
If approved, the plan will go to a public referendum.
Test Valley Borough Council has also approved plans to redevelop the southern part of Romsey town centre.
