Southampton Common's play area has finally reopened following a delayed refurbishment.

The area now features new play equipment, swings, enhanced sand play zones, and improved water play facilities.

The play area was originally scheduled to open the week commencing July 27, in time for the school summer holidays.

But the reopening was delayed due to unexpected groundwork challenges and hot weather.

The council has now confirmed the area is now fully operational after completing final safety checks.

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: "The wait is over, it's time to play.

They added: "Swing by this weekend, get stuck into some sandcastle engineering, and let the kids put the new facilities through their paces.

"Thanks to everyone for your patience while we completed the improvements."

"We can't wait to see families enjoying the new-look play area."
