A potentially harmful algae has been detected in Southampton Common's Boating Lake.
Southampton City Council has issued a warning about an increase in the presence of the blue-green algae, urging the public to steer clear of the water and keep pets at a distance.
Currently, dogs are not allowed in the Boating Lake, and warning signs are being installed at the location.
The council has also enlisted the help of the Environment Agency to further investigate the situation.
The algae can pose a risk to both humans and animals.
In addition to the algae, water levels in several lakes on the Common have dropped due to a recent spell of dry weather.
The council's teams have said they are keeping a close watch on these conditions and the wildlife in the area.
A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: "We understand that many residents care deeply about the fish and wildlife in these lakes.
"Please do not move fish or other wildlife between lakes.
"Relocating wildlife can cause additional ecological problems, and moving fish without the appropriate permissions is an offence."

Visitors are encouraged to follow the onsite warning signs and advice, avoid contact with the water, and leave wildlife undisturbed.
