A man has been remanded in custody following a fire in Holbury.

Michael Cranwell, of May Close, Holbury, was charged with arson with intent to endanger life and dwelling burglary.

The 32-year-old appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, and will next appear at Southampton Crown Court on September 10.

The charges stem from an incident on Sunday, when a fire broke out on Rollestone Road, reported to police shortly after 8pm.

The blaze spread from a hedge to vehicles and houses, causing extensive damage.

Emergency services, including South Central Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene.

Fortunately, reported injuries were minor.

A laptop was also reported stolen from one of the properties.
